California Scheming

Scheming … Not in a Wile E. Coyote kind of way. (Though did spot a roadrunner in Tahoe).  Beep beep.

No, in more of an inquisitive, isn’t-that-interesting, how-can-I-apply-that-elsewhere kind of way.

What I mean is – and apologies for not making sense but jet lag has set in – I have just returned from a fortnight in California and have seen much that has piqued my curiosity. I have taken pictures of these things. Many, many pictures.

A few are scattered across this post. These do not include myself or Mr Black eating burgers thumbs up under the Hollywood sign having crossed the Golden Gate Bridge, feet blistered from Yosemite, clothes humming from Lassen sulphur, brain addled by Santa Barbara, nose unbroken in LA (having averted the plastic surgeon’s bone sander) and so on.

No. The trauma of beholding such sights has been spared.

The simple geometry, the monochrome elegance and the timelessness of these signs and images clarified all of the encircling abstractions that formed and continue to shape Black.co.uk; how, after so many years of remaining unchanged (bar a lick of paint), these features can look so contemporary while so much falls by the wayside is inspiring.

Beep beep.
