NEW to Black.co.uk - Eugenia Kim and Her Splendid Hats
We've got some new hats in this week. Previously, we've had beanies, berets, hair accessories and hairbands all in a classic palette of black, grey, taupe and white; neutral and earthy colours and made from sumptuous cashmere and silk.
This year, however, we have introduced the work of a designer milliner into our collection of 
women's hats. The designer in question is renowned NYC-based Eugenia Kim, favourite among fashion's inner temple and a host of gleaming celebrities who choose her cloche hats, beanies and berets for their fashion-focused finishes, their feminine allure and also (and I can vouch for this) supreme comfort. Since their arrival on Wednesday I haven't taken this one off. I love them particularly for their cool and moody tones; anthracite, bronze, cream and silver and how they represent the classic understatedness of we do at Black.co.uk. But I also love the contrasting softness/edginess; the fluffy, silksoft mohair against a chain-mail metallic sheen, which performs a sort of trompe l'oeil when worn; 21st century Joan of Arc armour.
For those of you who know little or nothing about Eugenia Kim and her splendid hats, here is a little background:

Eugenia Kim's story is a sort of designer's fairytale. An Ivy Leaguer who was expected to follow her family into medicine, Kim decided instead to enrol at the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York, working part-time at Allure magazine from which she was later fired. After a distrastrous self-administered haircut she had no choice but to shave her head so she decided to design a hat that would cover it up. This hat was then spotted by an NYC style maven, who quickly propelled Kim into notoriety whereby she was flooded with orders for her hats, which led her to start her own business.
Her hats are now sold in over 100 boutiques worldwide and by department store royalty including Bloomingdales, SAKS Fifth Avenue and Barney's New York. Among her celebrity fans are Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Madonna and Kirsten Dunst.
