Last week I commented on the renaissance of the camel overcoat which was one of our favourite trends to come out of the show in Florence. Men’s patterned silk scarves was another trend that caught my eye and has been gathering pace for the past few years.
Although silk scarves have always been a menswear staple, they have tended to be kept in reserve for formal occasions. What has become more noticeable in recent years is men’s silk dress scarves being worn as part of everyday outfits.
The attraction of this accessory is due to the lustre of silk which allows printed patterns to be shown in greater detail and tones to appear richer and deeper. Therefore the texture and pattern of the scarf are more striking than a patterned wool scarf and also provides a sartorial edge to an everyday outfit.
In addition to this, the process of creating the fabric we use for our men’s printed scarves involves layers of silk fibres being placed on top of each other in a lattice structure. This technique allows air to escape and enter the fabric, giving the scarf fantastic cooling and warming capabilities making it an accessory for all seasons.
To provide some style inspiration, we’ve put together some of our favourite looks from the show and four ways you can integrate a silk scarf into your everyday outfits.
Look 1 – Days At The Office
Adding a silk scarf to your work outfit is a great way to update your everyday suit. Here we’ve chosen our Davoli silk scarf from our Bright collection and added it to a grey woollen suit and navy cashmere tie as the different textures and colours complement each other perfectly

Look 2 – Weekends Away
For weekends away our bronze Larino scarf will work perfectly with a navy blazer. The combination of these two colours is a classic as the blue appears darker and the bronze richer when next to each other. To this we’ve added a plain white oxford shirt to keep the look simple and understated.

Look 3 – Off Duty Days
Keep it simple with a navy polka dot silk scarf on the off duty days along with a navy cashmere jumper, white shirt, dark jeans and suede derby shoes.

Look 4 – Nights On The Town
The classic dinner jacket with a twist. Rather than the conventional monochrome silk evening scarf go for this unique and intricately designed patchwork silk scarf. The scarf features over 120 individual silk patterned squares and is finished with hand-knotted tassels.
