Classic Camel

The recent renaissance of the camel overcoat was in evidence at our menswear buying trip in the city of the renaissance, Florence. We showcase our favourite looks and how to wear this classic coat.

Classic Camel

Earlier this month our menswear buyers were in Florence putting together our men’s accessory collections for next autumn and winter. The event in Florence is regarded as one of the biggest and best shows in the menswear industry and therefore attracts top designers, fashion journalists, bloggers and trendsetters . . . in short, lots of peacocking dandies.

The event is a microcosm for menswear trends and serves as a litmus test as to which trends have stood out this year.

The trend which has prevailed above all others is without doubt the camel overcoat. Although it’s been ‘on-trend’ since 2010, the abundance in Florence is proof of its timelessness.

The enduring appeal of the camel overcoat is that it is more eye-catching than coats in black and navy and can give one a more elegant and sharper look. Also, the rich colour lifts the fabric and gives the coat a more textured appearance and thus a more luxurious look compared with its darker counterparts.

Finally, being a neutral colour it can be teamed easily with both neutrals and colours such as red, burgundy and green allowing for greater scope when accessorising. While at the show we snapped a few of our favourites to share with you. Here are our some of our favourite camel campaigners.
