The red carpet at the Emmys this year was ablaze with red: scarlet, crimson, claret and cerise, all following in the footsteps of the riot of red seen on the catwalks this season. January Jones wore a stunning strapless gown by Prabal Gurung with a graded length full skirt trimmed and lined with…yes… black and accessorised with black strappy heels. Clare Danes, fresh from shooting the latest series of Homeland looked demure in a waisted, sleeveless Givenchy and Kaley Cuoco mixed pink with red in a stunning layered tulle gown.

Who decides on the colours we wear? The designers or us? The fashion industry loves us to keep buying stuff. Each season champions a different colour from the preceding one. This season it’s red; bold, brilliant regal red. But what if red doesn’t suit us, or we just hate the colour red because it reminds us of our school uniform (mine was green and I never wear green now). Are we doomed to be deemed ‘uncool’? Wear the colours you love and feel comfortable with your look and maybe give a little nod to the red trend with a luxurious red accessory; maybe sport a red cashmere wrap or get caught red-handed in a pair of red leather gloves, all available at BrightByBlack.co.uk.
