Black is my default colour, and as Wednesday Addams said,

“I’ll stop wearing black when they invent a darker colour”.

She may have been no fashion icon but the sentiment is one I share. Elegant and classy, black takes you anywhere and everywhere. My sartorial maxim for any occasion is, if in doubt wear black. I have tried many times not to wear black, but I have failed and my wardrobe is peppered with colour that rarely sees the light of day.

Christian Dior put it beautifully. “You can wear black at any time. You can wear it at any age. You can wear it for almost any occasion”. Coco Chanel held a similar view.

 

“Women think of all colours except the absence of colour. I have said that black has it all”. So I take my lead from these iconic designers and if ever I doubt my choice of black I take enormous comfort and pleasure from this gem from Neiman Marcus:

“Women who wear black live colourful lives”
